AI email triage template for Gmail
Every new email is classified by an AI model, labelled in Gmail and, when it is urgent, posted to Slack so nothing important waits in the inbox.
Free to use and modify. In n8n: Workflows → Import from file, then add your credentials. No sign-up needed.
How it works
- The Gmail trigger checks for unread mail every minute.
- The text classifier reads the subject, sender and snippet.
- The AI assigns one of five categories you can edit: sales, support, billing, urgent, other.
- The matching Gmail label is added to the message.
- Urgent emails are also posted to your Slack channel.

Set it up in 10 minutes
- Connect Gmail, OpenAI and Slack.
- Create Gmail labels named sales, support, billing, urgent and other (or rename the categories).
- Choose your Slack channel.
- Adjust the category descriptions to match your inbox.
Good to know
Temperature is set to 0 for consistent results. For regulated data, we can run the classifier on a self-hosted open-source model instead.
